Maxine Robbins Wells

Date of Death: October 04, 2018

Maxine Robbins Wells, wife of the late Rev. James Wells, died Oct. 4, 2018.

Maxine Robbins grew up during the Great Depression on a farm in Jamestown, North Carolina.  She was the second of three girls.  She was an avid learner, and graduated as valedictorian of her high school class.  She graduated from Asbury College (now University) with a bachelor of arts in Christian education.  It was while she was at Asbury she met Jim, a seminary student, and they were married the year after her graduation.

Her degree was put to good use as a United Methodist minister’s wife.  Over the next 40-plus years she stood beside her husband serving numerous churches in the Kentucky Conference of the UMC.

After Jim retired from the ministry in 1992, they settled in Edgewood, Kentucky, and enjoyed this new season of life with family, especially three grandsons, and friends.  When Jim passed away in 2005, Maxine found great comfort in her family and church.

Her passions in life, besides her church and family, were music and gardening.  Her love of music was lifelong, and she sang in each church choir until three years before her death as her health began to fail.  Her flower gardens were admired by all who visited her home.

Maxine left this world on Oct. 4, 2018, one month past her 90th birthday.  She left a legacy of love and Christian service.  She lived her faith without reservation or apology.

She is survived by her children, Ramona Wells Newman, Dr. Mark R. Wells, and Timothy J. Wells; grandsons David Aaron Wells, Zachary William Newman, and Christian Andrew Wells; and great-grandson Luke James Wells.
